Bernard C. (Bernie) Eckstein, 80, of Stanberry, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Bernard was born September 6, 1937 in Ravenwood, Missouri to Michael and Gertrude (Eickholt) Eckstein.

On July 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to Verla V. (Boots) Sybert.

Bernard served in the Army reserve. He worked in construction and for C &NW, Rock Island and Union Pacific Railroads retiring after 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Jeffrey Fish, siblings Emelia, Robert, and Leo, half brothers and sisters, Hubert, Eva, Leiva and Louis.

Survivors: wife, Verla (Boots) of the home; sons, Mike (Susan) Eckstein, Weatherby, MO; Herschel (Trudy) Eckstein, Kearney, MO; daughters, Brenda (Doug) Fish, Albany; Judy (David) Henry, Blockton, IA; grandchildren, Tonya Wilson, DeLaney Eckstein, Dylan Eckstein, Danielle Henry, Whitney Henry, Damien Henry; great-grandsons, Zhane, Gavin and Gabriel Christopher Wilson; step-great-grandchildren, Alex and Chloe Wilson; siblings, Jerry, Clarice; half sister, Eilene; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Bernard was a wonderful husband, father and grandpa. He loved playing with his grandkids, gardening, fishing, hunting and working around the farm.

A gathering and dinner for family and friends will be Monday, November 13 from 3:00-6:00 PM at the American Legion Building in Conception Jct., MO.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Hall Cemetery, Stanberry.  Online condolences: www.robersonpolleychapel.com
