Creta Carnell Manring Gist passed away March 22, 2017 at the King City Nursing Home.  She was born April 30, 1929 at McFall, Missouri, to Chever and Velma Manring.

Creta graduated from Albany High School in 1947 and went on to attend Drake University.

On May 29, 1955, she married George Gist at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa.  She and George returned to McFall in 1963 and took over Gist Oil Company from Georges father Francis Gist. Together they ran Gist Oil until George preceded her in death on September 30, 1984. Creta continued to run Gist Oil for another 5 years until she retired.

Creta spent most of her life in McFall.  Her life centered around helping everyone in the community who needed a ride or simply someone to listen.  Her kitchen table was a place to gather to visit and have a cup of coffee.  She was instrumental in getting the McFall Fire Department going when she donated the Tank truck upon her retirement and was active on the Fire Department board until her death.  Recently the community had a chance to pay Creta back by watching out for her and transporting her as needed for doctor's appointments,

Creta was a lifelong member of the McFall Baptist Church and also a member of Eastern Star.

Creta will be sorely missed by two daughters, Rebecca Jane (Becky) Gist of Guam and Sherin (Sheri) Thomas of Kansas City.  She was proud of her granddaughter, Sharalynn Thomas.  Also surviving is one sister, Elizabeth (Liz) Manring Kelly (Mike) of Warsaw, Indiana.  "Granny" will also be missed by her special grandchildren B.J. Sprague, Jennifer Turner (Tim and children Dillon, Mekenzie and Zoey) and all those who called her Granny.
