Obituary

Donald Lee Arthur, 88, of Albany, Missouri, passed away on May 5, 2025, in St. Joseph, Missouri surrounded by family. Born on April 20, 1937, on the family farm south of New Hampton, MO. Don lived a full and hardworking life.

He began his education walking a mile every day to a country school just south of New Hampton. In childhood he was a member of the Mt Zion Baptist Church of New Hampton where he was baptized. From an early age, Don developed a strong work ethic that would define much of his life. He held a variety of jobs over the years, each one reflecting his versatility and dedication. He worked for Finley Engineers surveying powerlines all over Missouri, he spent time at Bunches stave mill, and as a carpenter, he also transported Amish community members and helped neighbors by plowing and disking gardens around town. His longest tenure was with Pepsi, where he was a salesman and delivery driver. He worked there for 27 years before retiring.

In August of 1960, Don was drafted into the United States Army. He served honorably for two years and was stationed at Fort Lewis, south of Seattle, Washington. While in Washington he purchased a Harley Davidson motorcycle. He couldn't park it on base, so he left it on a friend's front porch. He surprised his parents and drove it home. Don was very proud that he drove it over 1800 miles. His parents were not impressed.

Don married Judith Marlene Ward April 16, 1967. They were married for 58 years. Together they raised three children: Kevin (Kim) Arthur, Kerry (Alysia) Arthur, and Kim (Daniel) Parmenter. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Katelyn (Juan), Dylan (Karsen), Quincy, Vance, and Zaide—as well as step-grandchildren Alisha (Winston), Chelsey (JR), Brooke and their families. Carroll Arthur, sister-in-law. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were part of his extended circle.

He was preceded in death by his parents Garland and Rose (McMichael) Arthur; sister Mary Lou (Melvin) Wampler; brother Dorlan Gene Arthur; and brother-in-law Garel Dean Ward.

Don enjoyed horses, guns, motorcycles, camping trips, and especially driving his tractor around town—a familiar sight to many who knew him. Known for his friendly nature and outgoing spirit, Don never met a stranger. Whether chatting with neighbors or striking up conversations wherever he went, he had a gift for gab.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life well-lived through hard work, kindness, and connection to others.
