Eldon Coburn, 79 of Albany passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013. Eldon, the son of Henry and Alta (Neal) Coburn was born March 26, 1933 on a farm west of Albany. His parents preceded him in death. Eldon served in the Armed Forces from 1953 to 1955. On October 19, 1956, he was united in marriage to Vernelle Williamson in Maryville. Eldon was a carpenter and builder for 35 years and then became a Rural Letter Carrier for 31 years. Eldon was very proud of the fact he attended all 12 years of school without missing a day and was never tardy. He graduated from Albany High School in 1951 and from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville in 1959. He was a member of the Albany Christian Church, a 50 year member of the Athens Lodge #127, served on the Albany City Council, volunteer Fire Department, Fire Department Board and the Gentry County Water District Board. Eldon's favorite pastimes included golfing, fishing and hunting. He won many golf tournaments and trophies. He passed his love of golfing and fishing on to his grandson Caden. Emersyn and Caden, his two grandchildren, were the light of his life, especially the last two years of his illness. Survivors: wife, Vernelle Coburn of the home; daughter, Vicki Hogue and husband Matt, Albany; grandchildren, Caden Wilson and Emersyn Hogue; brothers, Eugene (Bobbi) Coburn; Jim (Sheryl) Coburn, all of Albany; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Friday, February 1 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany with burial in the Grandview Cemetery, Albany. There is no scheduled family visitation, however friends may call anytime after 2:00 PM on Thursday at the chapel.
