Obituary

Eleanor J. "Jean" McCall, 83 of Killeen, Texas passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in Killeen, Texas. Jean, the daughter of Rosa and Johann Kraus, was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia on August 8, 1926. She had two older sisters and one younger sister with whom she has had no contact since she was separated from her family in September of 1943 due to World War II. She met her husband, Max in Stuttgart, Germany in 1951. They were married January 12, 1954 in Stuttgart, Germany. One of her proudest moments was when she became a naturalized citizen on May 15, 1956. Jean was a homemaker, making their homes near military bases in Germany, France and several other bases in the United States where Max was deployed with the U.S. Army. Jean prided herself in cooking, particularly of her traditional German recipes. She was preceded in death by her mothers-in-law, Retha F. Davis and Edith McCall; father-in-law, Veryl C. McCall; brothers-in-law, Gary J. and Rex C. McCall, Sr. and Billy P. Steinman. Survivors: Husband of 56 years, Robert (Bob) Max McCall, Killeen, TX; Brother-in-law, Charles R. (Rita) McCall, Kansas City, MO; Sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Bob) Younger, Kansas City, MO; Madelyn (C.B.) Lundy, Gladstone, MO; Sharon (Jim) Wharton, Avoca, IA; Eleanor Steinman, Plattsburg, MO; Evelyn "Tootsie" (J.B.) Sperry, Albany and several nieces and nephews. Max would like to thank The Rosewood Care Center and Hospice for the care they provided to Jean.
