Eleanor June
Steinman
Apr 12, 1935 — Jul 9, 2023
Eleanor June Steinman of Plattsburg, Missouri passed away peacefully in her home Sunday morning, July 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She leaves this world with a lasting legacy of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother andgenerational homemaker. She is beloved and will be missed by many.
Eleanor was born April 12, 1935 in McFall, Missouri. She was the daughter of Woodrow and Edith (Daniels) Swope.
Eleanor married Billy Steinman in the fall of 1951. After some time in the service and moving around to various places, they settled in Plattsburg, Missouri on their farm in 1981 and there remained for the rest of their days. Eleanor lived her life building and taking care of her family. Even if you weren't a member of her family, she had a reputation of taking care of and making a place at the table for whomever else life put in her path. She had a way of making anyone feel at home and welcome.
She loved her family dearly, each and every one of them, and loved nothing better than having them over to her house so that she could spoil them. She was a highly skilled seamstress and an accomplished cook. Her cinnamon rolls were the stuff of legend. When word got out to thefamily that she was making them, it'd be a race to get to Grandma's so you could have one warm out of the oven. Since everyone fought over the centers, you'd want to show up early (not that you ever really had to worry because she'd have one saved back for you). She always made plenty of everything so that nobody had to do without. Nobody ever left Eleanor's house hungry.
Eleanor will always be remembered for her kind and giving spirit. She loved knitting and crocheting hats, rugs, blankets or just about anything someone could want. She'd be sure to have one made up for you in your favorite color and always have a spread for you to pick from. Rare is the day any of her kids or grandkids left the house empty handed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Paul Steinman, her mother Edith, father Woodrow, step-father Veryl, sister Tootsie, brother-in-law Jay, & her son-in-law Gary. Eleanor is survived by her son David & his wife Sheri Steinman, daughter Julie & her husband Scott Clark, and daughter Melanie VanHooser. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, step-brothers and step-sisters.
