Obituary

Elmer Eugene Lupfer, better known as "Frosty" 74, of Albany, passed away on April 2, 2015 at Mosaic Life Care of St. Joseph. He was born on September 9, 1940 in Santa Rosa, Missouri, the oldest son of Elmer "Ikey" and Dorothy (Huff) Lupfer. His parents preceded him in death. Gene attended McFall Elementary and Pattonsburg High School, graduating in 1958. As a young man he spent most of his time in the great outdoors with his brother and best friend, Jack and their cousins. On May 29, 1960, he married Joyce Carter. They were married 54 years until Joyce's death on November 19, 2014. They lived in McFall the first 20 years of their marriage where they owned and operated Lupfer Grocery and Feed Store. Gene was very active in the McFall Lion's Club and managed the McFall Lion's men fast pitch softball team for many years. He loved bowling, hunting, trapping, fishing and gardening. He served several years as Mayor of McFall and president of the Lions Club. In 1980 the Lupfer's moved to Albany and in the fall of 1980 Gene was elected Gentry County Sheriff. He served the citizens of Gentry County as Sheriff for 28 years, retiring in 2008. Gene was an active member of the Missouri Sheriff's Association. In retirement, Gene returned to his childhood hobbies of trapping, fishing and gardening, taking great pride in his huge garden, raising enough produce for family, friends and neighbors. The Lupfer's were the parents of six daughters, and opened their home to a dozen foster children. Survivors include six daughters, Kimberly Stimson, Colorado Springs, CO; Lisa (David) McGhee, New Hampton; Tammy (Blaine) Siddens, Albany; Michelle Lupfer, Springfield; Melanie Lupfer, Des Moines, IA; Melissa (Matt) Brennan, Largo, FL; Brother and best friend, Jack (Carol) of Albany; 21 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and a host of friends both in and out of Gentry County.
