Obituary

G. Fred Kling Jr. passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the age of 89. Fred was born on December 5, 1923 in Albany, Missouri. He was the son of Dr. G.F. and Gertrude (Anderson) Kling. He was educated in the public schools of Albany, Missouri and enrolled in the University of Missouri in 1941. He served in the United States Air Force, 379th Bomb Group with the Eighth Air Force in England from 1943 until 1945. His education was interrupted because of his military service but returned to the University after the war. He received his BS degree in business administration in 1948, LLB degree from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1950 and Juris Doctor in 1969. During his time at the University of Missouri he participated in athletics and won letters as a halfback on the Missouri Tiger football team in the years 1942, 1946 and 1947. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He served as a member of the Student Government Association and served as a member of the Board of Student Editors of the Missouri Law Review. He served as president of Q.E.B.H., Senior Honorary Society of University of Missouri-Columbia and was awarded the M Men's Scholarship Trophy. After serving as a member of the faculty of the School of Business and Public Administration at the University, he returned to Albany to practice law. He served as Prosecuting Attorney of Gentry County for many years. He was married to Mary Ann Snider on December 28, 1946. Fred was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church. He was active in Masonic affairs and served as the Grand Master of the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Missouri in 1966-67. He was an Honorary Colonel on the Staff of the Honorable Warren E. Hearnes, Governor of the State of Missouri, during his terms in office. He served as president of the Albany Rotary Club, president of the Gentry County Memorial Hospital Association Board of Directors and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Gentry County Bank of Albany. He was a member of the Board of Curators of the University of Missouri from 1967 to 1973 and was selected as a member of the University of Missouri Consulate in 1975. He served as a member and past chairman of the President's State Extension Advisory Council. Fred was a part of the local effort for the University to obtain the Hundley-Whaley Farm for the purpose of conducting agricultural research and extension demonstration work. Fred was a proud member of the 1940 undefeated and unscored upon Albany Warrior Football team. Survivors include son Fred and his wife Linda of Cameron, granddaughter Lauren and her husband Jeremy and great-granddaughter Sloane of St. Charles, MO, sister Barbara Pray and husband Charles, brother-in-law Jiggs Lykins and several nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann, his parents, sisters Opal Freed, Viola Lykins and Blanche Searcy Belcher. Memorial Service: 11:00 AM Friday, January 18 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Friday at the chapel.
