Gene attended school in Martinsville, MO and graduated from there in 1957.

On 1961 Gene started his own electrician business, McAninch Electric, which he ran for the next 49 years, many times still helping out the City of Albany electric crew when they needed a helping hand. Gene took pride in his work and always did an excellent job. He completed his working career by retiring in 2010, ending his electrician career after 52 years, although he still did a few small jobs during retirement. After retirement, Gene could be found doing woodworking projects, and spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, his coffee buddies and his good friend Larry Richardson.
Gene was a member of the Albany Volunteer Fire Department for many years, a dedicated member of the Albany United Methodist Church, where he used his electrician skills to go on several Mission Trips to help others in needy areas or disaster situations. Gene was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Lori McAninch Yeager, his sister Carollea Geyer, and brothers-in-law Bill Geyer and Lewis George Messner.
