George Leo McManus, 90 of Stanberry and a former resident of Conception Jct., Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in Stanberry. George, the son of Harold and Ellanora (Welch) McManus was born April 26, 1924 in Clyde, Missouri. On June 7, 1949, George was united in marriage to Roxie O'Banion. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Edward and Patrick McManus and a sister, Rita Grafton. A World War II Navy Veteran, George served in the Pacific Fleet on the U.S.S. Marcus Island. He retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. George was a member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church of Stanberry and St. Columba Catholic Church of Conception Junction, and the Tri-C American Legion Post #464 of Conception. Survivors: sons, Ed (Joy) McManus, Urbandale, IA; Steve McManus, Newton, IA; Tim McManus, Euffalo, OK; daughter, Georgene (Junior) Powell, Albany; sister, Mary Ann (Clyde) Brewer, Scottsboro, AL; sister-in-law, Billie O'Banion, Shelton, WA; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews that he loved dearly and many friends. Mass Of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM Saturday, November 1 at the St. Columba Catholic Church, Conception Junction, Missouri. Military Rites will follow the service at the church by the Tri-C Memorial Post #464 of Conception. A Rosary will be at 6:00 PM on Friday, October 31 with a visitation to follow until 8:00 PM. The body will be cremated following the service with a Memorial Graveside Service on Saturday, November 8 at 10:00 AM at the St. Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri.
