Gerthel Fern Carlock, the daughter of John Fredrick (Fred) and Mary Serena (Mayme) (Yadon) Newman was born February 24, 1915 in Alanthus Grove, Missouri and passed away January 29, 2017 at Pineview Manor in Stanberry at the age of 101.

Gerthel married Ross Carlock March 29, 1934. Gerthel and her husband Ross, served as administrators of the Plain View County Home in Albany.  Ross preceded her in death April 28, 1989.

A few years after the death of Ross, Gerthel married Marvin Carlock October 12, 1997. He died December 5, 2011.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, sons, Lowell and Jerald Carlock, daughters, Beth Clair and Carolyn Stevens, son-in-law, Bob Stevens, granddaughter, Malinda Daniel, sisters, Neva Pierce, Hazel Marticke, Dotty Holmes, Betty Gabbert, brothers, Jay, Bill and F.J. (Hop) Newman.

Gerthel was a member of the Albany Church of Christ.

Survivors: daughter-in-laws, Ruth Carlock, York, NE; Barbara (Claryle Cossins) Carlock, Albany; son–in-law, Russell Clair, Albany; sister, Naomi (Glen) Walker, Stanberry; step-daughters, Norma (Dean) Showen, Stanberry; Darlene (Don) Jay, Grant City; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Friday, February 3 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany with burial in the Old Brick Cemetery, Albany.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the chapel, where friends may call anytime after 4:00 PM on Thursday.
