Glenda J. Barnes, age 86, of Albany, Missouri, was born February 18, 1940 at the farm home in Sac County, IA to Chris W. and Florence E. (Corderman) Groth and passed away June 20, 2026 at Sunset Home in Maysville, MO.
She attended country school and graduated from Newell High School. She married her high school sweetheart Leo L. Barnes on February 14, 1960.
Glenda farmed with her husband and served as deputy recorder in Buena Vista County, IA, worked as secretary in the Gentry County Assessor’s Office, the soil and water conservation office and the First Christian Church of Albany.
She was very talented and enjoyed playing the organ for church and entertaining at various functions on piano and accordion.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leo, parents Chris and Florence Groth, brothers William and Richard Groth, son-in-law Harold Ellis, nephews Randy Groth and Bob Maier.
Survivors include her sister, Jean Rooney, Rosalie, NE; daughter, Beth Ellis, Weatherby, MO; sons, Kenneth (Alicia) Barnes, Albany, MO; Daniel (Chrissy) Barnes, St. Louis, MO; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Ellis (Vickey), Jennifer (Shawn) Meek, Joanna (Jeff) Stretch, Justin (Brandi) Ellis, Megan (Michael) Scheib, Hailey Barnes, Christopher (Baylee) Barnes, Ryan (Monica) Barnes, Kyle (Elaine) Barnes, Tyler (Gabby) Barnes; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; aunt, Patti Groth, Granger, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 30 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, McFall, MO. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the chapel. Friends may call anytime after 9:00 AM on Tuesday morning.
