Hazel E. Fitzsimmons, 87 of Albany, Missouri and a former resident of Portland, Oregon passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at a St. Joseph, Missouri hospital. Hazel was one of triplets born to Vernon E. and Gussie Kate (Hopkins) Eddy, the first day of spring, March 21, 1922 in Webster, Wisconsin. In 1941, Hazel graduated from R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington, received her registered nurse degree in 1946 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Over the course of her working career as a nurse she worked at other hospitals in various states, being an active member of the Baptist Church wherever she was living. Hazel also was a Long Bell operator in Longview, Washington. In her free time, Hazel was an avid seamstress and loved to shop for material and patterns. On Easter Sunday, April 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Joseph M. Fitzsimmons. He preceded her in death March 13, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, infant triplet sibling, triplet brother, William Eddy, sister, Mary Bailey and her daughter Margaret Ann Dye. Throughout life, Hazel has faced polio, survived breast cancer twice, Parkinson disease and lived with diabetes. Survivors: Daughter, Carol (Chuck) Butcher, Albany; Sons, Patrick (Risa) Fitzsimmons, Beavercreek, OR; Roger (Cheryl) Fitzsimmons, Beaverton, OR; Grandchildren, Jeremiah, Matthew and Robyn Fitzsimmons, Clayton Lindsay, Leah Ford and Micah Butcher and a great-granddaughter Gabriella Ford.
