Ila Rose Osborne, 82, of Albany, Missouri and a former resident of Bethany, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at North Kansas City Hospice. Ila, the daughter of Dale and Alta (Lane) Lappin was born February 7, 1932 in Cedar, Iowa. Her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister. While growing up in Cedar, Ila played basketball for Cedar High School and was rated as best scoring forward in the league as touted by the local press. She led her team to Mahaska County Iowa basketball championship. Ila continued participating in basketball during secretarial college and also joined a regional softball league. Her working career started as a secretary with the Department of Army in Washington, DC and for the 6th District Congressman from South Center, Iowa. In 1953, Ila was elected the Cherry Blossom Queen while living in Washington. On January 15, 1956, Ila was united in marriage to Paul (Bud) Osborne. He survives of the home in Albany. She is also survived by her daughters, Leslie Smith, Bethany; Deena (Jim) Gonzales, Rockwall, TX; sons, David (Josephine) Osborne, Greer, SC; Blake Osborne, Bethany; sisters, Lillian Hynik, Ottumwa, IA; Lola (Sanford) Owens, Oskaloosa, IA; sister-in-law, Donna Lappin, Oskaloosa, IA; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. With Bud working in retail, they eventually moved to Bethany, where Ila worked for various attorney's as a legal secretary. Ila was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bethany. She served as a volunteer for the Red Cross Swimming Program. In her free time, she enjoyed her bridge groups and playing golf. In retirement Bud and Ila moved to Albany. She spent her time bird watching, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows, KC chiefs and MU sports, flowers and gardening, but most of all traveling to visit her grandchildren. Memorial Graveside Service: 1:00 PM June 9 at the Grandview Cemetery, Albany. A reception will be held at the TLC Rental Hall in Albany following the graveside service.
