Obituary

Izora Esther Barton, 89, of Albany passed away on Saturday December 14, 2013 at Pine View Manor in Stanberry, Missouri. Izora was born to Irwin Albert Gray and Ethel Z. (Black) Gray on August 10, 1929. She attended country school for 8 years and graduated De Queen, Arkansas high school in 1943. She moved to Missouri in 1945 to work for $10 per week, triple her pay back home, and met her future husband Glen Barton. Izora married Glen Lawrence Barton on October 1, 1950. They lived and farmed in NW Missouri and SW Iowa for 25 years. Upon Glen's retirement in 1975 they left the farm and moved to Grant City, Missouri. Izora began working outside the home for Grant City Nursing Home for 11 years and then as a home services homemaker through St. Francis Hospital for 13 years. Izora loved to cook, quilt, take long walks, and most of all spend time with family. All the grandchildren can recall visits made to her home gathering eggs, chasing her chickens, milking the cows, watching the fireman lamp on her TV and eating her wonderful plum jelly. Preceding her in death were husband Glen, step-daughter Maxine, step-sons John and Lawrence, step-daughter in-law Joann, grandchildren Glen, Chelsea and Barbara, sisters Dorothy Johnson and Hazel Gray, brothers Emmerson Gray (infant) and Elbert Gray. Survivors include step-daughter Iris (Warren) James of Stanberry, MO, step-daughter-in-law Carole Barton of Bethany, MO, 9 grandchildren Sally, Joann, Kenny, Jerry, Sharon, Brenda, Mike, Debbie and Sheila.many great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Four nephews David Johnson, Paul Johnson, Robert Johnson and James Johnson. Funeral Services: 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany Missouri, with burial in the High Ridge Cemetery in Stanberry Missouri. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service on Thursday at the chapel, where friends may call anytime after 9:00 AM on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Albany First Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N.
