Jack Jones Mercer, 79 of Gentry, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at home surrounded by his wife and family. He was born July 13, 1934 in Gentry County, Missouri, the son of Charles and Ida Waive (Lewis) Mercer. He was united in marriage on November 29, 1956 to Connie Louise Evans who survives at their home. Jack was a graduate of the Parnell High School. At the time of his death, Jack was serving as the mayor of Gentry. He was a member of the Gentry Christian Church, where he served as elder and Sunday school teacher. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Labor Union #579. He retired from Loch Sand Construction. He loved woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family. In his early adult years, he coached Little League baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Timothy Mercer, sisters, Dessolee Auten and Maribeth Mercer, brothers, Thomas, Merlin, Elmer and Gerald Mercer. Survivors include his wife and children, Randy Mercer, Gentry; Rick (Tammy) Mercer, Gentry; Denise (Chris) Fritzel, Gentry; Jack (Susan) Mercer, Lawrence, KS; sister, Vivian Isenhower, Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Holly (Keith) Preston, Gilman City, MO; Connie (Jason) Jenkins, Pickering, MO; Kevin Asher, Bethany, MO; Kristopher Asher, Albany, MO; Charles (Jeni) Mercer, Gentry; Lindsey (Chris) Smith, Bolckow, MO; Kellan Asher, Sheridan, MO; Ryan Mercer, Maryville, MO; Kassie Asher, St. Joseph, MO; Chloe Mercer, Lawrence, KS; Jackson Mercer, Lawrence, KS; Kamryn Fritzel, Gentry; and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Monday, October 7 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany, with Pastor Bill Farrens officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Burial will be in the Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Denver, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 PM Sunday evening at the chapel, where friends may call anytime after 2:00 PM Sunday.
