James Rex Brown was born June 20, 1936 in Albany, Missouri, the only son of the late Marvin and Opal Fern (Malson) Brown and passed away September 22, 2018 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph at the age of 82.
Rex was united in marriage to Myrlene Showen October 5, 1957. To this union two sons were born, David and Jim.
Rex was a retired plumbing and heating contractor. Since 1941, Rex and his family have owned and operated Brown Plumbing, the oldest family owned business in Albany.
Rex served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Tri-C American Legion Post #464 of Conception.
He was a member of the Boy Scout Troop #102, Albany, Sachem in the tribe of Mic-O-Say, past master and 50 year member of Athens Lodge #127 A.F. & A.M., Albany, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Rosanna Chapter 261 OES, Maryville, 35 year member of the Moila Shrine Temple, St. Joseph, Moila Model T's and Moila Diplomats.
For 46 years, Rex was a fireman for the Albany Community Fire District and was currently serving on the board. He was president of the Old Brick Cemetery Association and served two terms as city councilman for the City of Albany.
Survivors: wife, Myrlene; sons, David (Jennie) Brown; Jim (Dianna) Brown, all of Albany; grandchildren, Chance Brown, Kansas City, MO; Jason Brown (Violet Hoover); Holly Brown, all of St. Louis County, MO; cousin, Darlene Knisley, Trenton; brothers and sisters-in-law and their families.
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Thursday, September 27 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. Burial with military rites will be in the Old Brick Cemetery, Albany. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday evening at the chapel, where friends may call anytime after 5:00 PM Wednesday.
