Obituary

James Marsh Mahoney, 75, died January 17, 2019 at home on the family farm north of Albany, Missouri.

The son of James and Stella Ruth (Cox) Mahoney, Jim was born March 31, 1943 in Albany.  At age six his father died and the family moved to California.  Later, Ruth married Keith Dills, also of Albany.

Jim attended Salina High School, the University of Arizona, University of Kansas, and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.  After college, Jim joined the Navy and served in Vietnam.

On January 27, 1969, he married Barbara Ann Gyulavics in Topeka, Kansas.  They made their home in San Diego and Long Beach California before returning to farm with Jim's grandparents.

Jim was active in the Albany community for over forty years, serving as a member of the Gentry County SWCD Board and president of: Albany Rotary, GCM Hospital Board, and Albany R-III School Board.  He valued his co-workers and friends made farming on Ellenorah Road, working for the Albany Feed and Grain, GCM Hospital, Bank Midwest, and as a real estate appraiser in the Frank Akers Appraisal Services office.

Jim had an inquisitive mind and loved following the news and politics – a passion that became Christina's. Life on the farm was important to him, as was watching KU basketball and sparring with his MU friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Chuck Dills, his grandparents Marsh and Vada Mahoney and Lloyd and Goldie Cox.

Survivors include: his wife Barbara, daughter Christina, cousins Billie Sue Gillespie and Ronnie Combs (Linda), Linda Johnson (Jim), Jim Combs (Mary), Jackie Findley (Dallas), Doug Combs, Larry Siddens (Teresa), Judy Shaffer (Richard), Karen Allenbrand (Don), Sue Plymell (Dick).
