Lela Dale (Carter) Schrunk, the daughter of Dale and Amy (Ross) Carter was born December 14, 1923 in Gentry County, Missouri on a farm near Lone Star, Missouri. Lela passed away on January 29, 2015 in St. Joseph at the age of 91. She attended Glendenning Grade School and graduated from High School in Martinsville, Missouri in 1941. In 1943, Lela Dale went to St. Joseph to seek employment and started working as a seamstress, an occupation she followed until 1977 at which time she went to work at Sherwood Medical Industry where she worked until she retired. Lela Dale was united in marriage to Ervin Schrunk of St. Joseph on June 17, 1947. They traveled around the country and overseas until Ervin retired from the Marine Corps, at which time they returned to St. Joseph and established their home. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976, parents and two brothers, L.J. Carter and Carleton Carter. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Lela Dale was a member of the Patee Park Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps Auxiliary.
