Letha Caraway, 89 of Albany, Missouri, passed away on July 15, 2015 in her apartment in Kearney, Missouri, where she had resided for just over 2 years. She was surrounded by her family and the caring support of Crossroads Hospice. Lee, the daughter of William and Ollie (Crabtree) Osborne was born April 27, 1926 in Tazewell County, Virginia and moved to the Albany area as a small child. On January 8, 1952, she married Vernon Caraway, making their home in the Albany area. Vernon died May 10, 1994 at their home after a lengthy illness and years of dedicated care by Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Henry, Charles, Earl, sisters, Mary, Renee, Edna, and grandson, Chris Caraway in 2009. Survivors: sons, Rick Caraway, St. Joseph; Joe (Stacy) Caraway, Kearney; grandsons, Ethan Caraway, Kansas City; Levi and Peyton Caraway, Kearney; great-grandchildren, Corey, St. Joseph; Kaden and Kelsi, Stewartsville and their mother, Melanie; brother, Paul (Bud) Osborne, Albany; sister, Sue Young, Mexico, MO; many nieces, nephews and friends. Lee was the consummate farm wife for the earlier years of her marriage to Vernon, helping with the dairy farm, gardening, canning vegetables and fruits and being a mother of two busy boys. In later years when they moved to town in Albany, she worked in grocery stores and later for the Gentry County Bank, retiring from the bank as department manager of the bookkeeping department. She is remembered as a dedicated wife and mother and was always able to make room for one more at the dinner table when the boys brought home an extra. She always had time to sit and listen if someone needed to talk whether it be her boys, their friends or coworkers. She was a dedicated baseball fan and loved "her boys in blue", the KC Royals. During the 2014 season play offs, she was interviewed by Fox 4 Sports network and that interview can still be found on YouTube. In years before she had a TV or perhaps before TV was available, she kept a score card as she listened to baseball on the radio. Rick and Joe would like to thank the many people who were involved in her care beginning several years back in Albany. Thanks to Dr. Arturo Tenorio and his office staff and the Albany hospital staff for years of care. Since her move to Kearney in 2013, Dr. Dennis Drews and the staff of Crossroads Hospice have provided excellent clinical and compassionate care in her final stages. Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Saturday, July 18 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany with burial in the Grandview Cemetery, Albany. There is no scheduled family visitation; however friends may call anytime after 9:00 AM Saturday at the chapel.
