Lois Marie McConkey, 92, of Albany, Missouri, passed away November 24, 2019 at Riverside Nursing Home in St. Joseph, Missouri.

She was born August 25, 1927 in Albany, to Raymond W. and Ora M. (Pierce) Wharton. Lois spent her early years attending the Albany school systems.

Lois married Charles M. McConkey, March 26, 1947, after his return from World War II. She was employed by the Albany Hospital as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for over thirty years, retiring to her home on West Canady. When her husband passed in 1982, she continued to reside at West Canady. By the late '90's she then moved to Albany Estates.

Lois was extremely active with her immediate and extended families. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl L. Bird, married to COL (Ret) David O. Bird, Amelia Island, FL and her son Wayne W. McConkey, and his wife Betty L. McConkey of Moberly, MO. A son, James R. McConkey, predeceased her. Surrounded by five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren brought much joy to Lois.

She could be seen having lunch locally or in Bethany every Sunday with her friend for numerous years, Kenny McConkey. They also traveled the United States extensively. She was an active member of the first Baptist Church. Lois always had a ready smile. Her time spent at the Albany Hospital was most rewarding in her ability to assist in the care of the many patients that she came in contact with and knew and loved. Lois was described by many as a very sweet lady.
