Marcaline Brown, a 90-year-old resident of Albany, died on May 2, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Albany. Mrs. Brown was born on July 17, 1922, in Trenton, Missouri, the daughter of Howard T. and Bessie Rose Wilson. She graduated from the Trenton Public High School in 1940 and was named the valedictorian of the 1942 graduating class of Trenton Junior College. She was married on October 17, 1945, to Jason Brown who preceded her in death in 2004. They moved to Albany in 1946 where they started their family. Marcaline is credited for starting the first Head Start program in Albany in 1967 where she taught for four years. In 1972, she helped organize the Opportunity Workshop in Stanberry and worked as a supervisor for ten years. She was active in the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and served as president of the women's group. In addition to raising a large family, she was involved in their development by serving as a Cub Scout den mother, school tutor, library volunteer and a member of the local Park Board. In the late 1980s she organized a volunteer group from United Methodist Women to play bingo at Colonial Manor when her mother moved there as a resident. She continued as a volunteer until becoming a resident in September of 2011. She was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi in Trenton. In 1984, she was named as a "Missouri Merit Mother" - a statewide honor of which she was most proud. She has also received her 55-year continuous membership pin from the American Legion Auxiliary. On October 14, 2006, she received the Recognition of Outstanding Contributions to Trenton Junior College and North Central Missouri College and was honored as a member of the 2006 Class of Outstanding Alumni Honorees. Marcaline is survived by seven sons, Dennis Alan and Robert Chris of Albany, Jeffry Don and his wife Sari, of Durango, Colorado, Charles Jay of Durango, Colorado, Henry Keith of San Marcos, Texas, Philip Kent and his wife Sandra of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kevin Lee and his wife Teri, of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Carrol Lyn Scott and her husband Larry, of Parnell, Sarah Jan Robertson and her husband Mike, of Albany and Natalie Sue of Kansas City; 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 3 sisters, Madolyn Collins of Clark, Mo., Mildred Pendlay and Maxine Pennell, both of Trenton. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Marian and Martha; one son, Morris Brown and four grandchildren. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 7 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany with burial in the Grandview Cemetery, Albany. There is no scheduled family visitation, however friends may call anytime after 2:00 PM on Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the United Methodist Church to be used for the Backpack Buddies Program, The Albany Carnegie Public Library, or the Morris Brown Memorial Fund used for Albany's school libraries in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N.
