Obituary

Mary Maxine Hensley, of Sun City, Arizona, passed away early Friday morning, September 29, 2023, at the West Valley Helping Hand, Peoria, Arizona, at the age of 102 years and 13 days.  She lived in Sun City, Arizona for several years with her husband, Dick Hensley, who passed away on March 24, 2013, after almost 73 years together.

Maxine was born on September 16, 1921, on a farm near Martinsville, Harrison Co., Missouri to William Homer and Martha Ona (Williams) Blanton.  She grew up in Missouri and was of the Baptist faith.  She married Richard (Dick) Junior Hensley on April 27, 1940, at Troy, Kansas.  To this union 4 sons were born:  Richard Franklin (Dick), Larry Lee, Dennis Ray and Danny Joe.

After farming for several years in north central Missouri the family moved to Arizona in 1959 due to health reasons.  They lived in Peoria, Arizona for several years and Maxine ran Hensley's drive-in and Dick worked at the Arizona State Fair Grounds.  After Dick retired they moved to Dell Webb's Sun City retirement community.

Maxine loved seeing the country music shows at the fair and watching them on television.  She loved seeing and hearing from her boys, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and getting pictures of them.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; four sisters: Ora Lee, Ethel Irene, Evea Eleanor, and Anna Laura; and two brothers, Dillard Hannah and William Homer Jr. (Bud); one granddaughter, Julie Walters and one great-granddaughter, Emilie Beth Wilson.

Maxine is survived by her four sons, one brother-in-law, Kenneth Hensley and his wife, Joan, 11 grandchildren; Sally (Mark) Deba, Nampa, ID, Sandy (David) Boesch, St. Louis, MO, Janie (Dave) Foggia, Las Vegas, NV, Shellie (Jeremy) Wilson, Liberty, MO, David (Angela) Hensley, Weatherford, TX, Matthew Hensley, Boley, OK,  Sheree Gallion, Frankfort, KS, Denny (Trisha) Hensley, Lenexa, KS, Ben Hensley, Las Vegas, NV, Aimee Hensley, Phoenix, AZ, and Donald (Amber) Ortiz, Tempe, AZ.; and  several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service and Burial: 10:00 AM Friday, October 13 at Lone Star Cemetery, Denver, MO. She will be laid to rest next to her husband. Reverend C.F. Rainey officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany.
