Obituary

Max Earl McGinley was born July 20, 1929 to Robert L and Pearl (Hopkins) McGinley on a farm 5 miles west of Albany, Missouri. Max passed away April 8, 2010 and was 80 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Pearl McGinley and his sister, Lola Faye Forbis. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Fowler) McGinley and three sons,Randall and Roger of St. Joseph, MO and Robert (Dixie) of Albany as well as ten grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Max was a very active member of the Albany community for his entire life. He served as President of the Albany Chamber of Commerce, Albany Golf Club, Rotary Club and he was a charter member of the Albany Jaycees. He was also the chairman of the first Albany Frontier Holidays Festival in 1983. Max began his career working at Lainhart Hardware in 1948 in Albany. Following that he purchased Supply Grocery Store for a start cost of $500. He and his wife owned and operated the McGinley Grocery on the square in Albany for 25 years with the help of many loyal employees. Max thoroughly enjoyed serving and visiting with all his customers, venders and friends. Max retired from the grocery business but later enjoyed being an Officer at the Albany State Bank and serving as an agent for Shelter Insurance Company. He served as an elder of the Albany Christian Church for a period of 58 years. He was an active Scout Leader and two of his sons, as well as two grandsons, advanced to become Eagle Scouts. He continued to be active in many Albany Community events and took a lot of pride in being a member of his home town.
