Obituary

Melvin R. Osborn, 90 of Stanberry passed away Monday November 9, 2009 at the Pineview Manor in Stanberry. Mel was born on October 14, 1919 in Gentry, Missouri to Gartha and Osa (McGinley) Osborn. In 1940, Mel married Jude Sowards. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Marvin and two sisters Charlotte Bracken and Maxine Clover. He was a farmer most of his life, worked as a lumber jack, rodeoer and rodeo clown. Mel was a member of the Stanberry First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge #109 A.F. & A.M., Eastern Star and the Lions Club. Survivors include his two sons, Raymond (Jeanne), Shorty (Judy) all of Stanberry; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; two sister Fern Reed and Eva Butt of Kansas City, MO; brother T.W. Osborn, St. Joseph. Mel volunteered by singing at music shows and nursing homes. He was an avid sports fan. Mel never met a stranger, he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
