Olen L. Salmon, Gallatin, formerly of McFall, Missouri passed away at his home April 1, 2016. He was 96.
Olen was born February 8, 1920 to William Loren and Winona (Burton) Salmon. He attended grade school at Heath and Pilot Knob country schools, and graduated from McFall High School in 1938. On September 2, 1939, he married his sweetheart, Virginia (Stratton). They devoted their lives to each other, and celebrated 76 years together. They lived most of their lives on their farm near McFall. For over 50 years, Olen was a "keeper of the Earth" –raising crops and livestock to earn a living. He also represented Northrup-King Seed Company as a salesman for several years.
Olen was a member of the McFall Methodist Church and served as deacon for over 20 years. He later moved his membership to the Christian Church in Gallatin. Olen was a devoted Christian man, husband and father. He and Virginia volunteered at the Pattonsburg Senior Center, serving others for many years. They enjoyed their many friendships there, as well as the numerous card games. Olen had a unique sense of humor, and he loved telling a good story now and then.
He and Virginia have two children, Linda and Gary (Nancy) Salmon, two grandchildren Stephanie Cole and sons Wes and Gabe and Will (Natalie) Salmon and daughters, Kailey, Karley and Kallie all of Gallatin.
Olen enjoyed his life of 96 years. He loved spending time with his family. A devoted husband, through tough times and good times. A father who taught his children by setting an example. His grandchildren remember fishing expeditions, tractor rides and playing cards with PaPa. His 5 great-grandchildren will remember holidays and birthdays spent with him. He was a kind, caring, and honest man.
