Owen Fay Long, 83 of Albany and a former resident of Bethany passed away Monday, November 23, 2009 at an Albany nursing home. Owen, the son of George and Lola (Bowen) Long was born December 5, 1925 in Atlanta, Missouri. During World War II, Owen was stationed in Germany. He received the purple heart while serving his country. Upon his return to the U.S. he attended and graduated from the Horology School (watch & jewelry repair) in Albany where he met his future bride and the love of his life, LaVerne Jones. To this union one daughter, Donna Waynette was born. His pride and joy was his granddaughter, Waynette Renee Rieks. Owen was a member and deacon of the Albany First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, John, Bobbie, Don and Buddie Long. Survivors: Daughter Donna Rieks, Albany; Granddaughter Waynette Rieks, St. Joseph, MO; Sister Reta Tipton, Macon, MO; brother Allen Long and wife Candace, Rockford, IL; Sister-in-law Arvilla McClellan, Columbia, MO; Brother-in-law Carroll Jones, Chevy Chase, Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews.
