Obituary

Richard (Dick) Junior Hensley went to be with his Lord on March 24, 2013, in Sun City, Maricopa Co., Arizona. He was 92 yrs, 1 mo & 21 days of age. Richard was born on January 31, 1921, on a farm near Lone Star, Gentry Co., MO, to Elza Oren and Anna Marie (Grace) Hensley. He was the oldest of six children and grew up and lived in Worth, Gentry & Harrison Counties in MO. He was of the Baptist faith, baptized at the Lone Star Baptist Church and later served as a deacon at the Allendale Baptist Church, Allendale, Worth Co., MO. At age 16 he went to work for the Civil Conservation Core (CCC) and worked there until he was 18. On April 27, 1940, he married Mary Maxine Blanton, daughter of Homer and Martha (Williams) Blanton, at Troy, Kansas. To this union four sons were born, Richard Franklin, Larry Lee, Dennis Ray & Danny Joe. Dick was a farmer & carpenter. The family lived on different farms in Northern Missouri area until moving to Peoria, Arizona in 1959 due to his wife, Maxine, & son, Dennis's, health. In Arizona Richard worked at many jobs, the last being with the state of Arizona & the Arizona State Fair Grounds. For 37 years, he supervised setting up the Maricopa Co. Fair livestock show, the Arizona National Livestock show and Arizona State Fair livestock areas. He and Maxine moved to Sun City, Arizona, about 1988, and still resided there. He retired from the fairgrounds in 2006 and liked to restore furniture for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Eldon Vernon & Robert Keith (Bob) Hensley, two nephews: Jackie Dean Shaffer & Douglas Allen Hensley, and one great-granddaughter, Emilee Beth Wilson. Richard is survived by his wife of 72 yrs., Maxine, of the home, and his sons: Richard Franklin, Peoria, AZ; Larry Lee, (Janice G.), of Haskell Co., OK; Dennis of Bennington, KS; and Danny, (Lahonna M.), of Parker, AZ.; two former daughter-in-laws, Carolyn Monson & Sue Procina; two brothers: Bill Dale, (Sandra Kay), of Liberty, MO; Kenneth Rex, (Clata Joan), of Albany, MO; one sister: Leola May (Hensley) Shaffer of Lawrence, KS; two sister-in-laws; Betty Lou (Nelson) Hensley of California & Opal Irene (Graham) Hensley of Webster City, IA.; 12 grandchildren: Sally Ann (McGuire) Deba, Surprise, AZ; Sandra Maxine (Hensley) Marshall, Las Vegas, NV; Janie Foggia of Las Vegas, NV; Julie Johnston of Peoria, AZ; Shellie Fay (Hensley) Wilson, (Jeremy), of Liberty, MO; David Perry, (Angela Marie), Hensley of Haskell Co., OK; Matthew Wayne Hensley of McCurtain, OK; Sheree' Suzanne (Hensley) Gallion of Frankfort, KS; Dennis Ray Hensley, Jr. of Shawnee Mission, KS; Benjamin Andrew (Ben) Hensley of Los Angeles, CA; Donald Frank, (Amber), of Mesa, AZ; Aimee Jo Hensley of Mesa, AZ; Richard is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews. Graveside Service and Burial: 10:30 AM Thursday, April 4 at the Lone Star Cemetery, Denver, MO. The family will receive friends from 5:00-9:00 PM Wednesday evening at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany, where friends may call anytime after 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the chapel.
