Obituary

Ricky Lee McCord, 66, passed away on April 23, 2025, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Ricky was born in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, on October 14, 1958, to Vernon and Beverly McCord of Denver, MO. He was baptized at the Denver Christian church in 1973. He graduated from Grant City High School in 1976. Ricky would go on to attend Northwest Missouri State University for a time, but inevitably returned to the family farm to work, and would go on to purchase farm land of his own.

Ricky grew up on the farm and loved everything about it, from the equipment to the adventures that would lead to a great love for hunting wild game, fishing, and mushroom collecting. His upbringing also inspired his passion for anything on wheels, from 4-wheelers to motorcycles and all sorts of heavy equipment. He also loved animals and could almost always be found with a companion dog by his side. With Ricky's lively personality, he was always up for a good time, fun, and laughs with family and friends, almost always wearing a smile on his face. Later in life, he worked for the Herzog Construction company, building railroads, which led to some exciting adventures. He was a skilled backhoe operator and unloaded railroad ties from train cars during his time with Herzog. The travel and scenery were exciting to him, but nothing compared to life on the farm. He would return to Albany to the farm where he enjoyed running bulldozers, building ponds, and clearing timber. He loved his family and always enjoyed family gatherings especially if it included a picnic at "The Rocks" and teaching younger family members and friends to hunt and fish. The farm was always home, and where he would enjoy the remainder of his life.

Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Vernon McCord, his grandparents Alfred & Cleora Olney, and Ben and Anna McCord. He is survived by his mother, Beverly McCord, sister, Terri (Brian) Holland and family, sister, Cherri McCord and family. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
