Rodney (Rod)
J. Green
Mar 24, 1943 — Mar 23, 2022
Rodney (Rod) J. Green departed this earth to go to heaven on March 23, 2022 while surrounded by family. He was born on March 24, 1943, to James and Minerva Green of Albany, Missouri where he grew up, raised his family and retired.
Rod is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy, of the home as well his daughters Taira and her husband Steve Kelley of Weatherby Lake and Robyn (Green) Akins of Albany. He was the oldest of three sons and is survived by his brother Rob and his wife, Phyllis, of California, Missouri and preceded in death by his brother Roger.
He leaves behind his granddaughter and apple of his eye, Harper Gentry Akins who affectionately named him "Papa," as well as "bonus" grandchildren Cole Kelley of Liberty, Missouri and Tori and Trevor Akins of Albany. He is additionally survived by three nephews Jeremy of Portageville, Shane of Warrensburg and Dustin of Higginsville as well as niece Landrien of Kansas City, Missouri.
Known for his whit and humor, Rod was a friend to all who crossed his path. Early in his career he taught high school biology in Albany where in true Rod Green fashion he donned a dress to show his humorous support of the first allowance of female teachers to wear slacks. Rod spent the largest share of his vocational career with the Missouri Department of Conservation as a zoologist where he was instrumental in writing curriculum including the Missouri Hunters Safety Manual as well as teaching many teachers and youth about wildlife (including the famous snake story) and sharing his love of the great outdoors.
Rod is the proud author of "Up Gentry County Way: Reflections on nature and conservation from the collection of Outdoors in Northwest Missouri," a product of his decades of writing articles for nearly two dozen newspapers and magazines including Field and Stream, Ducks Unlimited and Missouri Life. His teaching and articles where often laced with funny stories of hunting, fishing, camping and enjoying nature.
Rod served as the President of the Association for Conservation Information; a non-profit organization dedicated to natural resource conservation representing the state of Missouri for decades. This is where he met friends and follow-conservationist, known far and wide as "the five pack" who shared tall tales, shenanigans and bonds that transcended decades.
Rod truly exemplified the meaning of a Christian family man putting faith and family first, always there for his wife, children, family and friends. His generosity knew no bounds as he was always willing to share his love, laughter and orneriness.
Rod and the family request any donations be made to the First Baptist Church youth development fund in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402.
