Roy Lynn Upchurch, the son of Isaac Porter and Olive Mae (Clark) Upchurch was born July 10, 1914 in Clinton County, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Albany at the age of 98. Lynn was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Butler, on December 25, 1997, his parents and a brother, Earl Upchurch, who died at the age of 53 Lynn worked as a telegraph operator for the Burlington Railroad and because of this employment found himself in Gentry, MO, as Depot Agent. Consequently he became acquainted with Mary Alice Butler of Albany who he married on June 3, 1942. They had over 55 years of wedded bliss, enjoying their travels between Canada and South Missouri. Lynn and Mary purchased a small island in Wabaskang Lake, Ontario, Canada in 1952 and spent their summers, hunting and fishing there. In addition to their property in Canada, Lynn and Mary Alice owned a small place at Protem, MO where again they enjoyed fishing and nature. In later years, they made their home in Gaslight Apartments in Albany, where they renewed acquaintances with old friends and made many new friends. Because of Lynn's skill with the telegraph, he played a major role as chief telegrapher for the communication system while serving in the Army during World War II. Survivors include a niece, Lynda Crane, and Lynn's sister-in-law, Sue Upchurch Murphy, Tampa, Florida, and several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews of Mary Alice, that Lynn considered his family, too. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Golden Living for the care Lynn received while he was resident and to AseraCare for making Lynn's final days more comfortable. Additionally the family is deeply grateful for the dear people in Lynn's life who continually flooded his heart with a sea of support. Graveside Service and Burial: 2:30 PM Sunday, January 6 at the Grandview Cemetery, Albany. There is no scheduled family visitation, however friends may call anytime after 9:00 AM Sunday at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany.
