Ruby Irene Harris, 83, of Albany, Missouri, passed away on May 22, 2019 at Northwest Medical Center in Albany. Irene was born on August 6, 1935 at their farm near Carmack, the daughter of Raymond and Grace (Wood) Gillespie.
On June 13, 1954, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald Harris and formed a union and partnership that would endure almost 65 years. A true love story, one where they did everything together, just as God intended.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, brother Leo Gillespie and sister Marjorie Wallace, brother in laws, Louis and Martin Harris and sister in laws Marjorie Asher, Vonda Gillespie and Bernice Harris.
Irene worked at old American Insurance Company for a time but devoted herself as a homemaker, wife and mother until their youngest daughter was of school age when she worked many years as a cook at the Virginia E. George Elementary School in Albany, and best known for her homemade cinnamon rolls and as a great cook.
She was a member of the Union Baptist Church and attended the Albany First Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of the Good Neighbor Club, WMU, member of the Carmack Church ladies and a volunteer project teacher for the Pleasant Dorsey 4-H Club. Irene loved her Lord Jesus Christ and she loved people and they loved her.
Survivors include her husband Don Harris of the home in Albany; son, Rodney Harris, Albany; daughters, Donna (Randy) Teel, Liberty, MO; Terri (Nick) Tompkins, Albany; two grandchildren, Payden (Britany) Harris, Kansas City, MO; Brett Teel, Liberty, MO; one great-grandchild, Tucker Harris, Kansas City, MO; brother, Russell Gillepsie, Cameron, MO; sister in laws, Deloris McKahan, Parkville, MO; Lorene Harris, Albany; nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Sunday, May 26 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany with burial in the Carmack Cemetery, Albany. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday evening at the chapel, where friends may call anytime after 2:00 PM on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Carmack Cemetery in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402.
