Obituary

Sarah C Malson, 71, of Albany, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023 at MOSAIC Life Care, St. Joseph.

Sarah was born on May 1, 1952 to Mary Osborne Malson and Theodore Malson. She lived her whole life at her childhood home on W. Canaday Street in Albany. She graduated from Albany High School and then attended Northwest Missouri State University.

Those who knew Sarah will remember her many years as a paraprofessional working for the Albany School District for almost 40 years. She cared deeply for her students and stayed in contact with many of them after they graduated. She also had many colleagues turned friends whom she cherished until the end.

Sarah was an avid gardener, baker, and had a vivacious love for animals. Throughout the years, she has given friends tons of garden produce, baked thousands of casseroles and desserts, and cared for hundreds of kittens and puppies.

Sarah was considered a member of the Newman family for most of her life. Jim and Debby's children, Cody, Heather, Hayley, and Jacob shared any good times with Sarah and her mother, Mary. Sarah got great joy reliving those memories by telling stories about the ornery Newman kids.

The past 20 years Sarah was an integral part of Cody, Melissa, Gabby, and Cade Newman's lives. The Newman family 'down the hill' as she referred to them. She helped care for Gabby and Cade. She attended many activities and ballgames. And gave them hours of joy every summer with new litters of kittens. Sometimes the kittens went to the Newmans' house and never returned. Melissa and Cody depended as much on Sarah as she did them. It was a wonderful 'framily'. Sarah also kept up with the other Newman children and their new and extended families. Many newspaper clippings and pictures can be found stashed around the house. She loved all of them, and they loved her in return.

Sarah was preceded in death by her father, Ted, a sister, Teddy Sharon, and her mother Mary whom she cared for until her death. She is survived by Cody, Melissa, Gabby, and Cade Newman, and her beloved dog, Dixie May, Heather Newman-Elder (Lester), Levi and Tanner. Hayley Newman-Fox (Scott), Cale and Kinley. Jacob Newman (Rachel), Elly, Payton, and Ava. Jim Newman (Tilly Lotspeich), and Debby Ware-Jackson. She is also survived by her Uncle Bud Osborne of Bethany, and her Aunt Suzanne Young of Fulton.

Sarah is no doubt enjoying some rest from all the gardening, baking, and care-giving. But, her sweets, her smile, her kindness, and her generosity will be missed by all.
