Obituary

Vern King was born on January 3, 1944 to Russell James King SR and Emily Jane (Pierce). He was called to rest on February 26, 2021.

Vern was born in King City, Missouri and moved with his family to Darlington, Missouri at a young age where he grew into a young man. In early adulthood is where his love for cutting timber started with his father.

On September 27, 1975 he was united in marriage to Barbara Lou King.  During his marriage four children were born.

One of his favorite jobs was working on the farm with Homer Gillespie. He had many other jobs but never could stay away from the timber. In 1988 Vern and his brother-in-law and best friend Alfred Butterfield started a business, K and B Logging, which spanned over 20 years.  After retiring from logging, Vern was the maintenance man for Eastridge Apartments where he made many friends.

Vern enjoyed hand fishing, playing cards, deer hunting, and mushroom hunting. He really enjoyed getting to share mushrooms with his friends and people of the community who were unable to get them for themselves. Most of all he enjoyed spoiling all his grandchildren or any kid he was around for that matter. Throughout his life and careers, Vern also made time to build a loving family that he enjoyed very much.  He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
