Vickie Lauren
Allen
Apr 4, 1953 — Jan 20, 2022
Vickie Lauren Allen, 68, of New Hampton, Missouri, passed away January 20, 2022 at Center Point Medical Center, Independence, Missouri. Vickie was born April 4, 1953 in Redland, California to Lawrence Robert and Stella Vinita(Alley) Davies.
Vickie was united in marriage to Duane Allen on January 30, 1976.
Much like her beloved mother she welcomed everyone, "you never quite knew who would be sleeping on the floor—or even in your bed, if you got home late. All were welcome, just one more potato in the pot, or peg on the wall for a coat."
My mom lived a full life as a wonderful mother and wife, a friend to all she met, a homemaker and devoted servant to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her faith in and knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and understanding of life after death brought her and her family great peace. She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints and shared that love of the gospel with everyone she met fearlessly.
My mom was the strongest woman I've ever met. She wasn't afraid of anyone or anything, except maybe spiders. Oh, the stories I can tell you—I remember one of the many times as we traveled from Mo, to Idaho to visit family we stopped at a rest area to use the facilities' when she befriended a truck driver traveling through with his small family. She asked me if I had a book of Mormon in the car that she could give to this family. I am ashamed to say that I thought about putting one in my car that morning but got distracted and never got around to it. She later confided in me that she too had the same prompting and was kicking herself for not following a direct impression. She looked at me and with tears in her eyes she said, well I guess there is only one thing left to do, and she walked over to the car and pulled out her personal quad (set of scriptures) and gave them to this young man. Not a small task considering she used her scriptures daily and had years of notes compiled in them. That was the kind of person she was. Selfless and God-fearing. She new that this young family needed to have the gospel and she was willing to give away one of her most precious items to offer that to them.
Mom loved people, and she loved to serve. Her hands were rarely still. Her desire to never stop learning brought her uplifting courses offered by her lifelong love for learning. She kept busy working on projects to share with her loved ones. Everything from sowing blankets for her children to painting portraits of her grandchildren. She could have been a millionaire but instead of selling her services she chose to offer them to those less talented. Mom was skilled in every art known to man except maybe culinary art, but she could make a mean Hawaiian meet ball and her cabbage rolls where superb.
Most of all she loved her family and installed in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
