Viola "Vi" (Kling) Lykins, 84 of Albany passed away Saturday, July 3, 2010 at an Albany nursing home. Vi was born January 20, 1926 in Albany, the daughter of Dr. Gunard Fred and Gertrude (Anderson) Kling. Her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Opal Freed, sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Kling and Helen Lykins Wayman and half brother-in-law, Kenneth Lykens. On September 28, 1947, she marred the love of her life, Max "Jiggs" Lykins. To this union one daughter, Cherryl was born. Vi, a homemaker, loved to entertain others. She worked for Old American Insurance in Albany. Later, Vi and Jiggs, along with partners, Howard Lynch & Sandy owned L & L Grocery Store in Albany for several years. Diagnosed with MS in 1964, they sold the business in 1965. Vi stayed busy with activities, never giving up. Her positive attitude became an inspiration to everyone who met her because of her optimistic outlook on life and caring nature. Her favorite pastime was party line at KAAN Radio. She was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church, Esther Chapter #13 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Athena Club, BPW and was involved with Girl Scouts. Survivors: Husband, Max "Jiggs" Lykins of the home; Daughter, Cherryl Morrow & husband Larry, St. Joseph; Grandchildren, Lance (Karyn) Morrow; Chad (Johanna) Morrow; Great-grandchildren, Max and Mia, all of Columbia, MO; Brother, Fred Kling, Albany; Sisters, Blanche Searcy Belcher, Kansas City, MO; Barbara Pray and husband Charles, Centerville, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
