Wendell Russell Davis, 85 of Albany, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at his home. Mr. Davis was born February 1, 1928 in Lebanon, Missouri to Russell and Mae (Whitton) Davis. He married Norma Nadine Needels on August 6, 1950. They were married for 63 years. After graduating from Albany High School in 1946, he joined the military service. He was assigned to the 11th Airborne Division and served that time in Sapporo, Japan. He was discharged in April 1948. In the Fall of 1948 he entered Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He received his Bachelor's Degree in August, 1951. For the next six years he directed the music programs at Rippy and Arnold's Park Iowa High Schools. In 1957 he and his family moved to Garden Grove, California, where he continued his career as a high school band director. He served in one capacity or another for 32 years in Garden Grove Unified School District. During These years he completed the requirements for a Master's Degree in Administration at Cal State Fullerton. After their retirement he and Nadine moved to Fallbrook, California. They then returned to native home in Albany. At that time both transferred their church membership to the Albany Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Rick and brother, Harold. Survivors: wife, Nadine; sons, Randy (Marion); Reggie (Tracy); grandsons, Jason, Ryan and Matt; granddaughters, Shannon Edwina, Amy Nicole and Mackenzie Nadine; great-grandchildren, Ben, Zoe, Anthony, Summer and Major; sisters, Kathleen (Max) Lykins, Dorothy (Bob) Deal; sister-in-law, Helen Davis; nieces and nephews. Memorial Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. The body has been cremated.
