On December 28, 2014, William (Billy) Albert Toombs, 92, of Darlington passed on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Billy was born November 20, 1922 in Darlington, Missouri to Loren and Lucy (Thompson) Toombs. Billy served in the Army during World War II and in the Philippines from July 14, 1944 to August 9, 1946. His occupation as an infantry man, tank driver and tank mechanic earned him the Army of Occupation Medal-Japan Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with the Bronze Star Good Conduct Medal, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. Shortly after his return home he married Pauline Esther Folgate on October 8, 1950. Pauline survives of the home. Billy and Pauline bought their homestead farm on September 27, 1962, where Billy raised livestock and ran a dairy farm. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Marja Mae Roberts and Lily Belle Lane, brother-in-law, Loris Roberts and one brother, J.L. Toombs. Additional survivors: daughter, Judy (Kenny) Wiederholt, Guilford, MO; sons, Darrel (Dianne) Toombs, Stanberry, MO; Kevin Toombs, Darlington, MO; 4 grandchildren, Chad Wiederholt, Coby (Danyell) Wiederholt, Dustin Toombs and Christina (Jerrud) King; 3 great-grandchildren, Landon and Rylin Wiederholt and Carter King; brother, Marvin (Marcia) Toombs; sister-in-law, Joy Toombs; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday, January 2 at the Darlington Baptist Church. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Ford City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday at the church, where friends may call anytime after 9:00 AM on Friday at the church.
