Obituary

An open house is being held to commemorate the life of William Manring Chapman. An informal gathering will be held at the Little Red House (4357 Highway A, McFall, MO) July 6, 2019, 1-3 pm. Please come see the home Bill was planning and to recognize his achievements and life.

William Manring (Bill) Chapman, of Sedalia, MO, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Northwest Medical Center in Albany, MO, at the age of 69.

Bill was born October 30, 1949, in Kansas City to Samuel Clay and Mary Lou (Manring) Chapman of Liberty, MO; and was the oldest of five children, including Samuel J., Anna L., Patricia L., and Samuel C.

On October 18, 1986, Bill married Beverly Ann (Bendl) Lowrey at the Fairview Church, McFall, MO. They had a wonderful and happy marriage for 32 years enjoying participation in community theatre, attending theatre, travelling, caring for their donkeys, and spending time with family.

Bill was a Boy Scout and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1968, William Jewell College in 1972, and Washington University School of Law, St. Louis, in 1975. After obtaining his Juris Doctorate, Bill worked in the Bootheel of Missouri for Legal Aide and later moved to Sedalia where he continued working for Legal Aide. He opened his private law practice in 1978 at 112 West 4 th . He was a member of the Missouri Bar Association and Pettis County Bar Association. His true passion was working as a prosecuting attorney, serving as the Sedalia City Prosecutor for approximately 15 years and as the Pettis County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for 30 years. He retired January 1st of this year.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Samuel James Chapman; brother-in-law, Michael Knauss; and step daughter, Charlotte Lowrey.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Chapman - Sedalia, MO; step-son, Sean (Renée) Lowrey; granddaughter, McKenna Lowrey - all of Austin, TX; sisters, Ann (James) Waterman - Liberty, MO; Patricia Knauss - Rock Port, MO; brother, Samuel C. (Kathryn Degler) Chapman, Jr. - Overland Park, KS; niece, Mari Chapman - Kansas City, MO; cousins, Sharron Guest - King City, MO; Nancy Salmon - Gallatin, MO; and Tom Magee - McFall, MO.
